Final Divorce

I far as I understand, the divorce is finally final. It almost wasn’t.

The judge had a hard time believing that the ex wanted to waive all rights to take half my stuff. He almost confused her into postponing the divorce and speaking with a lawyer, but she caught on to what the judge was about to do and stopped it by restating she just wanted the divorce over and was okay with waiving her rights and for the judge to proceed.

No joke, I started sweating bullets in that air-conditioned court room. Visions of this divorce going on for another two years and becoming a confrontational legal fight flooded my mind. I’m lucky I didn’t faint.

I did, apparently, over dress for the hearing. It was the first time I’ve had to stand before a judge, so I got a suit. However, the other folks who showed up before us looked like they were wearing whatever they yanked from their closets. Wish I would have known that. I felt like I could have been mistaken for a lawyer. Oh well.

It should be done. Just need to wait for the court folks to mail the final paperwork and I can start transferring assets into the kids names.
